Your student can experience science in a whole new way!

Our goal is to get your student really excited about science and technology so they’ll dig deeper in school.  This is a risk-free way for your student to explore their interests and decide to pursue science in high school – or not.  Perhaps they’ll choose to take the honors track in high school.  Or perhaps they’ll opt for one of the MCVSD Academies (High Tech, MAST, Allied Health or Biotech).  Either way, our courses are great “resume builders.”

“It was great being in a class where everyone wants to learn. There was nobody trying to hold the class back.”

We complement your student’s classroom experiences.  Our approach is like work in a real company.  The students have a problem to solve.  They work together in teams to create innovative solutions.  There are no exams.  And your student is working with the best teachers we can find – they make all the difference!

Your student is in an environment where “smart is good”…and they’ll form friendships with other students who’re also smart and interested in science.  Frankly, we were surprised at the social bonds that develop among the students.

We end each semester with a Celebration Event.  An exciting evening where we highlight the work the students have done and ensure they feel good about their accomplishments.

We have a Teaching Assistant for each class.  Typically these are juniors or seniors from local high schools and they’re great role models for your student.  All our TAs are smart, science literate, fun, and are great working with the kids.

We have opportunities for students to compete intellectually if they choose.  Typically several of our students choose to compete at the Jersey Shore Science Fair and about half win ribbons.

Logistics

Most classes meet at High Technology High School.  We meet the students, take them to their class, bring them back, and don’t leave until everyone has been picked up.  If you’re ever late, just give us a call on (732) 609-2797 and let us know what’s happening.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit.  The students pay tuition, we pay the teachers and other costs.  Margaret Ann and Steve receive no financial compensation for their work.

Give us a call if you’d like to chat more about this opportunity -- 732-609-2797 or mtroche at starschallenge.org.  As you can imagine, we love talking about The Stars Challenge.
